Pacing

A mild positive split, with the extra minutes spent at the aid stations rather than on the course. Every regular stop is 5 minutes and both drop bags 10 — 50 minutes standing still instead of the 22 you started with.

Holding 20 hours with those longer stops costs nine seconds per kilometre: 7:05 average instead of 7:14. The opening leg is 5% faster than average and the closing leg 8% slower, which is the point — bank the cool, dark kilometres while fresh.

There is no buffer. The plan lands on 20:00:00, not 19:50. A minute over at a station is a minute owed back on the course. Cutting each stop by one minute buys 8 minutes of margin.

The first leg sets the tone; the third tests it. 28 km to Tranum on fresh legs will make 6:43/km feel far too slow at 18:00 — hold it anyway. Svinklovene to Bulbjerg is now the longest leg at 29 km, run between midnight and 03:30 on unmarked trail. Leave Svinklovene with every bottle full.
